About Meta Lab
Meta Lab explores how the mind can observe, understand, regulate, and transform itself.
We are an independent research and product lab developing methods, protocols, and digital tools for deeper mental training.
Our work focuses on the capacities that allow human beings to step back from automatic thought, recognize inner patterns, regulate emotional states, sustain attention, and reshape the way they think, feel, perceive, decide, act, and become.
Meta Lab brings together metacognition, meta-awareness, metaprogramming, self-regulation, meditation, and embodied practice. We draw from neuroscience, psychology, cognitive science, contemplative traditions, consciousness research, and lived human experience.
Our work rests on three premises.
First, the mind is trainable.
Second, cognition is embodied. The mind depends on a body that sleeps, digests, moves, breathes, senses, and regulates itself.
Third, methods built for real people in real lives must honor both the evidence and its limits. They should be serious without being cold, practical without being shallow, and open to the sacred without reducing it to what can be measured.
What We Study

Metacognition
The mind’s ability to notice and understand its own thoughts, assumptions, interpretations, and patterns.
Meta-Awareness
The capacity to become aware of present-moment experience as it is happening, including thought, emotion, sensation, attention, and state.
Metaprogramming
The practice of reshaping the mental patterns that guide perception, emotion, behavior, decision, and identity.
Self-Regulation
The ability to influence emotional and physiological states with greater steadiness, clarity, and choice.
Meditation and Contemplative Practice
Structured methods for training attention, awareness, compassion, inner stability, and a different relationship with thought.
Embodied Foundations
The bodily systems that support cognition and emotional regulation, including sleep, movement, breathing, sensory input, digestion, and nervous system balance.
What We Build
Meta Lab develops structured protocols, educational resources, and digital tools for people who want to train the mind at a deeper level.
Our tools may include guided practices, audio-visual protocols, reflective exercises, attention training methods, nervous system regulation practices, and experimental digital products.
The aim is not to escape the mind, suppress emotion, or force positivity. The aim is to make inner patterns visible, workable, and trainable.
Intellectual Lineage
Meta Lab stands in a tradition that takes consciousness seriously without abandoning scientific discipline.
William James is a central intellectual ancestor. His work helped open the empirical study of religious experience, altered states, and transformations of mind. We share his commitment to studying inner life with rigor, while resisting the temptation to reduce human experience to mechanisms alone.
Meta Lab also draws from modern neuroscience, cognitive science, psychology, contemplative research, and the long history of practices designed to train attention, regulate emotion, and transform consciousness.
Operating Structure
Meta Lab is operated by Meta Lab LLC, a California company.
The lab was founded by Nilo, an independent researcher trained in neuroscience at Harvard and nutrition science at Stanford, currently living between California and France.
